4 eggs

1/3 cup sugar

1/2 t. salt

4 cups milk

1/2 t. vanilla


Beat eggs slightly.  Add sugar, salt, and vanilla.  Scald milk and pour it slowly over egg mixture.  Stir until thoroughly mixed.  Pour into custard cups, filling them 2/3 full.  Sprinkle with nutmeg.  Set cups in a pan and pour hot water around them until it comes to the level of the custard.  Bake at 325 approximately 40 minutes or until a knife comes out clean.  Do not let water in pan boil.  Chill thoroughly before unmolding.  Makes 8 custards.
